Microdermabrasion
How does microdermabrasion work?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure where very fine, sterile crystals are sprayed across the surface of the skin. They gently abrade away the dry and damaged surface cell layers, leaving the skin smoother and more vibrant.
What areas can be treated?
Microdermabrasion can be performed on your face, but also on your hands, chest and even on areas where rough skin is prevalent, such as elbows, knees and heels.
How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the area being treated. It will typically take 15 minutes to treat a face.
Is it safe?
Yes. There are no after effects.
Is the treatment painful?
The procedure is very gentle. Your skin will feel taut as the tip is pressed against it, with a mild tingling sensation.
How many treatments are required?
Treatments are provided in a series of sessions, usually at one to two week intervals.
What results can I expect?
Patients are delighted with this treatment which will improve:
- Oily or dull skin
- Enlarged pores
- Acne scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven skin color
Can Microdermabrasion be combined with other treatments?
Microdermabrasion is a useful skin care technique which can be used alone or combined to other complementary procedures as a part of an overall skincare regimen. Your Doctor can discuss the various options appropriate for you.
Is it permanent?
Maintenance sessions are recommended (typically every two) months to maintain the result.
Are there any side effects??
Side effects are minimal and are generally limited to a slight redness of the skin which should subside within minutes.
Can you still wear makeup?
Yes, you can re-apply make-up immediately after the procedure.
Chemical Peels
Who can benefit from chemical peels?
Superficial chemical peels can be performed on patients of all Fitzpatrick skin types with good results. Contraindications are few. However, chemical peels should not be performed on any patient with known history of dermatologic disorders that manifest in skin sensitivity and/or allergy to any component of the peeling agent, and all patients who have unrealistic expectations are known to be non-compliant with at-home management/treatment specifications.
What results can I expect from chemical peels?
Chemical Peels are effective treatments if you want to:
- Improve tone and texture
- Remove fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve hyper-pigmented areas
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Correct sun damage
- Improve mild scarring
- Successfully treat common epidermal conditions including:
- Solar Lentigines
- Actinitc Keratoses
- Melasma
- Acne
- Rosacea
- Comedones
- Alter pore size
What can I expect from the treatments?
Shortly after the application of the peeling agent, most people experience a transient stinging sensation. This sensation may be mild or intense. Each person is different and will have a unique experience. The procedure may be mildly to moderately uncomfortable for most patients, but is rarely painful. After the peel, the patient may experience mild to moderate erythema and edema for 6 to 24 hours post-peel. Mild erythema may persist until healing is complete. Healing may take up to 7 days with mild to moderate flaking and/or peeling of the treated areas. It may be necessary to schedule a series of treatments for the patient to see the maximum benefit from this type of resurfacing. Generally, a single treatment will not provide the results you are seeking.
